Coming Home for Christmas Sermon Series - Part 4

Jesus, Prince of Peace

Sermon follow-up 12/30/24

Introduction
As we gather in the days between Christmas and New Years, it's a time to reflect on the true meaning of the season. While the hustle and bustle of Christmas Day may be behind us, the message of peace brought by Jesus Christ remains ever relevant. This week, we delve into the profound peace that Jesus offers, exploring how it impacts our relationship with God, our daily lives, and our eternal future.

What is True Peace?
  • Understanding Shalom - The concept of peace, or "shalom" in Hebrew, goes beyond mere quietness or the absence of conflict. Shalom encompasses wholeness, completeness, and restoration. It signifies a state where nothing is missing and everything is in perfect harmony. This is the peace that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, brings into our lives.
  • Peace with God - From the beginning, humanity's relationship with God was fractured by sin. Romans 5:12 tells us that sin entered the world through Adam, bringing death and separation from God. However, the Christmas story is a testament to God's plan to restore this broken relationship. Colossians 1:19-22 beautifully illustrates how Jesus reconciles us to God, making us holy and blameless through His sacrifice.

Experiencing Peace in Life's Storms
  • Jesus in the Storm - Life is filled with storms, both literal and metaphorical. The story of Jesus calming the storm in Luke 8:22-25 teaches us that following Jesus doesn't guarantee a trouble-free life. Instead, it assures us of His presence and peace amidst the chaos. Jesus didn't come to prevent the storms but to be with us through them, offering a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:4-9).
  • Practical Steps to Peace - For those seeking actionable steps to cultivate peace, the Apostle Paul provides guidance in Philippians 4:4-9. Rejoice in the Lord, present your anxieties to Him through prayer, and focus on what is true, noble, and praiseworthy. By doing so, the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

The Promise of Eternal Peace
  • Looking Forward to Eternal Shalom - While we experience glimpses of peace in this life, the ultimate fulfillment of shalom awaits us in eternity. Revelation 21:3-5 paints a picture of a future where God dwells among His people, wiping away every tear and eradicating death, mourning, and pain. This is the eternal peace that we look forward to, a peace that will permeate every aspect of creation.

Life Application

Embracing Peace in Our Daily Lives
As we step into a new year, let's embrace the peace that Jesus offers. Reflect on these questions to apply this message to your life:

  • 1. How can I cultivate a deeper sense of peace with God?
  • 2. In what areas of my life do I need to trust Jesus more during the storms?
  • 3. How can I focus on the eternal promise of peace to navigate daily challenges?

Challenge for the Week
This week, take time to intentionally seek God's peace. Start each day with a moment of prayer, surrendering your anxieties to Him. Reflect on His promises and let His peace guard your heart and mind. Remember, Jesus is with you in every storm, offering a peace that transcends all understanding.

Conclusion
The message of Christmas extends beyond December 25th. It's a reminder of the profound peace that Jesus brings into our lives. As we navigate the uncertainties of life, let's hold onto the promise of Emmanuel—God with us. May His peace fill your heart and guide you into the new year with hope and confidence.
