Jesus Is... Sermon Series - Part 2
The Hope of the World
Sermon follow-up 5/5/25
Introduction
In times of darkness and uncertainty, we often place our hope in temporary things like financial security or relationships. While these can be good gifts, they make terrible gods and will ultimately disappoint. Jesus alone is the true, unshakeable hope of the world.
What Makes Jesus Our Ultimate Source of Hope?
Jesus fulfills all the promises and prophecies throughout scripture as the hope that was promised from the beginning. From Eden's first promise to Abraham's descendants, and from the prophets to the empty tomb, every chapter points to Jesus as our living hope.
The book of Hebrews describes our hope in Christ as "an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." This hope is anchored behind the curtain of heaven, where Jesus has gone before us, removing the barrier of sin that once separated us from God.
How Does God's Grip on Us Secure Our Hope?
Our hope doesn't depend on how tightly we hold onto God, but on His unchanging grip on us. Through the Holy Spirit dwelling within believers, we are sealed and marked with the guarantee of our inheritance in Christ. As Colossians 1:27 says, "Christ in you, the hope of glory."
Even when we struggle to hold onto hope, our hope will never lose hold of us. The Holy Spirit anchors heaven's hope in our hearts.
Why Do We Still Experience Suffering If We Have This Hope?
While believers are spiritually redeemed, we still live in bodies affected by sin and await their final redemption. God allows this period of "not yet" redemption because He is still working to bring others to salvation. When our suffering produces endurance and character, it ultimately produces even more hope (Romans 5:3-4).
Life Application
Remember: There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still. Whether you face uncertainty, sorrow, or struggle, Jesus remains your unshakeable hope.

Life Application
- Consider these questions this week:
- Where have you been placing your hope besides Jesus?
- How can you share the hope of Christ with others who are still walking in darkness?
- In what areas do you need to trust God's grip on you rather than your grip on Him?
- Challenge: Identify one area where you've been hoping in something temporary. Commit to redirecting that hope to Jesus this week through prayer and meditation on scripture about His faithfulness.
Remember: There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still. Whether you face uncertainty, sorrow, or struggle, Jesus remains your unshakeable hope.
